What Factors Should Be Considered When it Comes to Vinyl Fence Price?

October 4, 2017

Vinyl fences are a great way to add privacy to your living area. When purchasing your vinyl fence, it’s important to make sure that you do some research and compare prices from different contractors. It is critical to make sure that your vinyl fence installers are both licensed and insured as well. You’ll get the best vinyl fence price when you do a little investigation before you get started.

Vinyl fences are made out of PVC plastic resin and come in either pre-assembled panels or snap-together planks. High end vinyl fences usually have aluminum or steel inserts in the posts or rails. This adds strength and durability to the fence.

What Do You Get for Your Money?

Vinyl fencing can be more expensive than wood fences, but it also goes a long way. It requires less maintenance and does not chip or fade. Although some people like the do-it-yourself approach when installing a vinyl fence, others would rather hire a professional.

Your vinyl fence price for the installation should average anywhere from $23.94-$28.30 per linear foot. The estimate given by the fence installer is calculated from the material costs, unit labor and hourly labor wages. A fence installer would first set the project location, specify the project’s size then re-calculate the estimation. Fence installers can also charge fees for things such as the costs to prepare the worksite for the vinyl fence installation, costs to protect existing structures, finishes, materials and additional components. They can also charge for cleanup and debris removal when the vinyl fencing installation is complete. Other costs include labor setup time, mobilization time and equipment delivery to and from the job site.

Keep in mind that there could be hidden fees as well such as sales tax on the materials and supplies and permit or inspection fees. Make sure to add on an extra 12.1% to 19.3% to the total cost for general contractor fees.

Vinyl Fence Price Estimates to Consider

Keep in mind that the following contains some estimates to give you some ideas of what you can expect to pay. A ranch style vinyl fence for the do-it-yourselfers with two to four rails can cost around $4-$12 a linear foot. If you wanted to add a gate to the vinyl fence, it could cost around $500-$1400 for 100’ of fencing. For professional installation, for a ranch-style vinyl fence it could cost $7-$25 or more for a foot, $800-$2700 for 100’ and $2,100-$8,000 for 300’ of fencing. For a 4’-6’ vinyl semi-privacy fence it could cost around $15-$17 or more a foot for installation. A gate could cost about $1,600-$7,500 for 100’ and $4,500-$22,000 for 300’ of fencing.

The Installation Process

The installation process includes two stages. The first stage is to clear the fence path and dig the holes for the posts. After this procedure, the posts are installed in concrete or sometimes gravel. Then a day or two later, when the concrete hardens up, the fencing is then attached to the posts and any gates desired would be also attached at this time. Some additional vinyl fence price charges that have nothing to do with materials and labor can include steep slopes, unusual obstructions or difficult access. Other costs can be added if you wanted to add decoration to the fence or any additional gates.
